The Imagined Stereotype: The concept of perceiving stereotypical thoughts through visual imagination

Oskar Buller

Stereotypes tend to be be born from a few different aspects: naivety, ignorance, or the oversimplification of an image or idea of a particular type of person, culture or place. This project takes the stereotypes of Japan and visualises them in a real place using techniques of blending 3D modelling and photography. The idea is to show the absurdity of these stereotypes that are learnt through all types of mediums, which relate closely to myself. I've had an interest in the Japanese culture since being a child, so I have also been skewed by stereotypes. This project is to help me and those who view the photos to re-educate themselves on the stereotypes they have experienced and find the truth.
