Geert De Neve is Professor of Social Anthropology and South Asian Studies. He has carried out long-term field research in South India with a focus on the region's integration into global trade and manufacturing networks. He explores the impacts of neoliberal trade policies on the South Asian garment industry and on the transformation of social relations more broadly. He is currently working on the role of digital and biometric technologies in the design and delivery of social protection in India. A recent publication (with Dr Rebecca Prentice) includes 'Unmaking the Global Sweatshop: Health and Safety of the World's Garment Workers' (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2017).
