Clinical Imaging Science Centre
Timescale: Completed October 2007
Project value: £1.2 million
The Clinical Imaging Sciences Centre is a highly flexible state-of-the-art facility based on both magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and positron emission tomography-computed tomography imaging (PET-CT Scanner).
Imaging is at the core of modern medical practice and is an important tool for biological research in humans. The MR imaging system is used as an innovative tool for teaching basic sciences and clinical medicine and supports neuroscience research through imaging a brain function. The ability of PET to depict molecular processes in living subjects enhances research focusing on cancer and neuroscience.
The Centre enables Brighton & Sussex Medical School to build on its programme on integrating imaging into education and provides a valuable facility for biological research within the University of Sussex. The Centre also provides additional service capacity for the NHS.
