Teaching

At the department of Physics and Astronomy, we don’t just study the universe: we reveal it.

Get hands-on with physics in our dedicated teaching laboratories. In our state-of-the-art facilities, you’ll have access to the latest equipment, from telescopes to muon detectors. You’ll get hands-on experience, starting with classic experiments and building up to using modern equipment, helping you to dive deeper into advanced physics.

Research

In our Centre of Excellence The Sussex Centre for Quantum Technologies, we work with leading industry partners in commercialising our ground-breaking discoveries.

Our work spans multiple areas, including collaborations with CERN and the National Quantum Computing Centre.

Computing

In our dedicated computing facilities, you'll be able to:

  • run simulations
  • explore AI and machine learning
  • collaborate on global projects.

We also have a cutting-edge high-performance computing (HPC) cluster, integrated in the worldwide networks of clusters for large-scale data analysis and AI R&D.

Whatever your focus, you’ll have access to the same tools used by professional physicists.

We’re part of The Data-Intensive Science Centre at the University of Sussex (DISCUS). This team applies data science and machine learning expertise to fields such as particle physics, astronomy and computer vision.
