Becoming a Teacher (X6603)

30 credits, Level 4

Autumn and spring teaching

On this module, you'll develop the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to explore teaching, learning and children’s wellbeing in a primary school setting through taught sessions and practical placement experiences.

In taught sessions, you'll build a foundation in pedagogy and statutory framework requirements that underpin professional practice. You'll also examine the purposes of education, shaping your teacher identity by considering political, cultural, sociological and historical perspectives.

During your placement, supported by a school-based mentor, you'll observe, plan and teach individuals, groups and the whole class. You'll enhance your practice, resilience, professionalism and communication skills through self-reflection and feedback. The module includes a minimum of 20 placement days.
