On this module, you’ll explore what it means to be a geographer and the unique perspectives that geographers bring to understanding the world. You’ll tackle critical 21st-century challenges, from global climate change to the effects of economic and political shifts on communities.
You’ll dive into the key ideas and approaches that define geography as a discipline, and develop the essential skills needed to become a geographer. Through tutorials, workshops and a residential field class, this module equips you with the subject knowledge and study skills to succeed in university-level study and thrive as a geographer.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 22 hours of contact time and about 128 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology.
