On this module, you’ll explore how geographers have sought to understand—and challenge—many of the pressing issues that define what it means to be human in the modern world. Understanding that today’s world is shaped by past and present cultural, economic, social and political processes, you’ll examine how these processes have evolved over time.

You’ll delve into the key concepts and approaches used by geographers, reflecting on their contributions to shaping our future. This module celebrates the important role human geographers play in understanding and influencing the world we live in.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 24 hours of contact time and about 126 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2025/26. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
