Reflecting on Professional Knowledge in Primary and Early Years Settings (X6619)

Autumn and spring teaching
This module focuses upon teaching as a profession and the professional knowledge a teacher requires to have a positive impact on children’s learning and well-being.
The module explores types of professional knowledge and how this has emerged from academic study, classroom experiences and investigations, and work with other professional practitioners, drawing on the student’s study and practices across their three-year course.
Supported by a range of reflection models, students will reflect upon their current professional knowledge and the impact this has had on the children’s learning and well-being in their final teaching placement, as well as identifying on-going targets to support their transition to becoming Early Career Teachers.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 16 hours of contact time and about 284 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
