Educating the Whole Child (X6601)

15 credits, Level 4

Autumn teaching

On this module you will explore the theories and approaches to concepts of childhood.

You’ll examine models of child development and the key learning theorists (such as Piaget, Bruner and Vygotsky) who underpin modern educational approaches.

You’ll consider the importance of educating the whole child – being healthy, safe, engaged, challenged and supported.

The module will cover how a skilled practitioner can interact and support this development through awareness of children’s needs, and how the different agencies and professionals working with children can contribute.

You’ll be encouraged to look beyond varying curriculums and think about a child's needs beyond academia. You’ll explore issues such as the promotion of well-being, multiculturalism, e-safety and anti-bulling.
