Creative Practice: Ideas and Exploration (P4038)

Autumn teaching
On this module, you will be introduced you to a range of practices from across the disciplines that are taught on the Media Production BA.
Centred around a series of lectures from staff practitioners, you will be introduced to the different approaches employed, whether by digital artists, designers, filmmakers, art-activists or practice-research academics. Insights will be given into multifaceted processes, how to find inspiration, explore themes and turn interests into final work and how to take action.
The lectures are complemented by a number of seminars and smaller group sessions where you will widen the scope of enquiry, to look at specific examples of contemporary media practice, identifying modes and methods. You will be asked to investigate ways in which the techniques of others can be applied to your own practice as it progresses and to carry out your own experiments.
Over the course of the module, you will undertake weekly exercises, practical tasks and formal research, which will help you understand these various modes. These will be recorded and reflected on weekly in a log, as well as a short report.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 17 hours of contact time and about 133 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
