Professional Placement Year (S&M) (N1512)

120 credits, Level 5

Autumn and spring teaching

Taylor (2003) describes the main goal of organisations participating in graduate recruitment as "reaching that elusive creature – the well qualified, well motivated, intelligent, energetic, mobile graduate with management potential".

This module forms the critical component of the degree in contextualising learning, developing and applying new skills and generating the opportunity of subsequent employment, while contributing to yout personal development into Year 4 of your course and beyond.

Wherever possible (and especially in the cases of Marketing, Accountancy and HRM) and where appropriate, you will be encouraged to become student members of a relevant professional institute and will incorporate aspects of professional development in your learning experience.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 1200 hours of work. This breaks down into about 8 hours of contact time and about 1192 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
