Academic Communication for International Relations and Development 1 (Q1135)

Autumn teaching

On this module, you'll develop the communication skills needed to excel in international relations and development studies, with a focus on building autonomy in academic work. You'll learn to:

  • engage with thematic concepts such as globalization, the shifting power of the nation-state, and the rise of non-state actors
  • apply key academic skills, including critical reading and essay writing, to your studies
  • practise speaking skills to effectively contribute to seminars and tutorials
  • enhance your autonomy as a learner.

This module is designed for students whose first language is not English and offers training equivalent to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 22 hours of contact time and about 128 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
