15 credits, Level 6

Spring teaching

On this module, you’ll build on knowledge from land law to explore the intersection between land use and environmental law.

You’ll critically examine:

  • theories of property and alternative models of land ownership
  • property mechanisms like conservation covenants for environmental protection
  • nature conservation legislation and its role in regulating land use
  • legal protections for landscapes and their underlying rationale
  • the legal framework for public access to land for recreational activities
  • regulation of agricultural land use, focusing on biodiversity, food security and climate change resilience.

This module equips you with a critical perspective on dominant norms and structures in land law and their environmental implications.
