Geography Overseas Field Class (L7024)

30 credits, Level 5

Spring teaching

In year two, all single honours Geography students – with an option for joint honours Geography students – take part in a field class, either overseas or a non-residential one in Sussex. We offer a wide range of international field class destinations, with recent examples including:

  • China
  • the Greek islands
  • Los Angeles
  • the Mojave Desert.

Our international field class offerings are regularly updated, with new destinations being developed.

These trips provide an opportunity to familiarise you with locations where you may conduct research and give you the experience of carrying out your own research in those settings.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 72 hours of contact time and about 228 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
