Autumn teaching
On this module, you’ll get a critical introduction to the vibrant field of economic geography. You’ll learn about a range of different theoretical approaches and core concepts that help us understand the geographic dimensions of the global economy and society.
The module will give you a background on the historical and contemporary processes that have shaped today’s global economy. You’ll develop the tools to interpret a range of pressing contemporary real-world issues that link the ‘economic’ with the ‘geographic’. These include:
- the governance of the global financial and information technology sectors
- global and regional inequality
- international development
- sustainability transitions.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 22 hours of contact time and about 128 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25.
