Support for You

In these pages, you'll find avenues of support available to you across campus, as we strive to support your postgraduate research journey at Sussex.

While you may dedicate many hours to independent research, you’ll never be on your own. Throughout your degree, our goal is to ensure you stay healthy, positive and well. As such, you have access to a network of professionals and postgraduate research experts whilst here.

As you progress with your research career, we'll strive to help you overcome challenges - personal or academic -, understand postgraduate research processes, regulations and standards, and ultimately get the most out of your PGR experience at Sussex!

Mental Health and Wellbeing

If you find yourself struggling mentally or emotionally, then please see the Health and wellbeing services available, including Therapeutic Services, or reach out to an advisor via MySussex for additional support. If you need urgent help for yourself or another student, then the Getting help section offers specific contacts and further advice.

Other general resources on maintaining your mental health as a PGR include our Wellbeing webpages, advice on Understanding the mental health of postgraduate researchers and and an interesting article: How do psycho-social factors affect the wellbeing and progress of PhD students?

The University of Sussex is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for every member of its community. If you or someone else has experienced behaviours such as bullying, harassment, a hate incident, sexual violence, domestic abuse or discrimination, you can let us know using this Report and Support tool.
