Hours: Full Time considered up to a maximum of 1.0 FTE / 37.5 hours per week, including teaching, research and administrative duties and responsibilities. Requests for flexible working options will be considered (subject to business need). Classes take place Monday through Friday during term time and all teaching is done in person on campus.

Job description

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Spanish and Linguistics (Education and Research) to contribute to teaching, research and administration in the Department of Language Studies (Modern Languages) and the Department of English Language and Linguistics. 

General teaching expectations include: 

  • Contributing to teaching and module convening on the new MA in Translation Studies.
  • Contributing to teaching and module convening on undergraduate and postgraduate modules in English Language and Linguistics.
  • Contributing to teaching and module convening on Spanish language modules on the Modern Language electives and pathways.

 Additional responsibilities include:

  • Post-graduate supervision.
  • Contributing to the research profile of Language Studies and Linguistics.
  • Undertaking administrative responsibilities. 

The postholder will work closely with colleagues in Modern Languages and in English Language and Linguistics. You will be expected to convene, plan, teach and mark/moderate assessments in these subject areas. There are also opportunities to teach in other areas in the School of Media, Arts and Humanities. This role requires excellent organization, communication and team-working skills. 

We are seeking someone who holds a doctorate, or who is near to completing a doctorate, in a relevant field, and who will have excellent working knowledge of Higher Education in the UK. You should have experience of postgraduate research supervision, or a willingness to undertake supervision.
