- Student year memberships are not rolling, so if you purchase a yearly membership from September onwards it will automatically end on 31 August
- Four month memberships are equal to up to 123 days
- Three month memberships are equal to up to 92 days or 13 weeks
- Membership refunds, cancellations and temporary freezes will be at the discretion of Sussexsport management
- Graduate membership is only available to University of Sussex graduates in their first year post-graduation
- Sussexsport staff memberships are open to staff employed by the University of Sussex, SussexFood, University of Sussex Co-op and SEF
- Staff employed by the University of Sussex can pay for membership via salary deduction, subject to contract
- Staff paying by salary deduction are committed to paying for the full membership. Cancellations can only be made as per points above or by presenting evidence - i.e. leaving the University
- Alumni members include University of Sussex graduates, external students, retired staff, businesses on campus and student/staff families
- Annual membership fees can be paid in a one-off payment or by monthly instalments for public/alumni members. If paying by part payments, each month must be paid regardless of use and the monthly payment amount will be rounded up dependent on the one off actual annual fee, when divided by 12, to cover administration costs
- Public/alumni members must write and give at least one calendar month notice if terminating membership and must be a member for at least three months before being eligible to cancel membership. If you join during the month the full month fee will be payable
- Annual public/alumni Gold or Silver memberships are for 12 months. If paying by part payments, each month must be paid for regardless of use until Sussexsport receive written notice of cancellation and a minimum three months has been completed, in accordance with points above
- Members are required to give written notice to Sussexsport of any changes to contact information. We will assume that all correspondence sent by us has been received within 5 working days of sending
- Membership is non-transferable. If another individual uses your card to attempt to gain access to the facilities, Sussexsport reserves the right to terminate your membership without refund
- All additional membership benefits are subject to availability and refunds will not be given for sessions that are not taken up
- The University shall not be in breach of its agreement nor liable for any closure of the sport centre and sports facilities if such closure, delay or failure results from events, circumstances or causes beyond the University's reasonable control. If the period of closure continues for more than 5 days then your membership will be temporarily frozen. When the sport centre and facilities re-open your membership will be extended to cover the duration of any such closure. If there has been a change in your circumstances and your membership cannot be extended, for example if you have left the University, you can apply for a proportionate refund for the period of closure provided that you apply as soon as reasonably possible and in any event within 6 months' of the resumption of the services by the University
- Members are responsible for their behaviour and that of their guests. Innapropriate or disruptive behaviour could mean termination of membership without refund
- Photography and video recording of any kind is not allowed in the sports facilities unless written permission is received from the University's Digital and Creative Media team or Sussexsport
- Membership data will be used anonymously for usage analysis purposes
- BUCS UNIversal gym membership is open to annual Gold student and staff members only. This is an external offer with BUCS, and is therefore subject to changes beyond our control. Sussex students are unable to use their BUCS UNIversal gym membership at the University of Brighton, and vice versa. We will aim to inform eligible members of any other major alterations to the scheme
- The details you provide us with will be stored, and used by us to administer your membership. We may need to contact you from time to time with relevant information, in line with GDPR regulations.
- Health Commitment Statement

By agreeing to our terms and conditions you are confirming that you are aware of our Health Commitment Statement (HCS) and agree that the commitments set out are reasonable of what we expect of you and what you can expect of us.
Sussexsport expects users to make decisions about what exercise they are able to carry out, but if we observe extreme practices that we believe poses a risk to the safety and health of a user, then it is necessary to address this as part of our duty of care.

- Bookings terms and conditions
- Failure to show proof of membership may result in a charge of £2.50 being applied (£8 for gym usage), payable before access will be granted
- A member can only book consecutive time slots; simultaneous slots will not be allowed and members must attend all sessions booked in their name
- Membership does not guarantee access to classes/facilities. You must book to reserve your place by booking via the telephone, online or at reception
- Sports injury appointments must be paid for at the time of booking
- 24-hours cancellation notice must be given on all bookings regardless of membership type (sports injury clinic require 48 hours notice), otherwise full rates will be charged
- Failure to attend bookings or give the necessary cancellation notice will result in arrears. Use of the facilities or bookings will not be permitted until all arrears have been paid
- If you have booked facilities using your membership and are playing with a non-member who is not a registered student at the University of Sussex, a guest fee of £2.50 per person is required. This does not include the fitness room, where higher guest fees apply. Only members are entitled to membership rates
- Members will have to pay University car parking charges if using the facilities from 9am-5pm Monday to Friday
- Gold members can book up to 10 unpaid bookings for group exercise classes at once, Silver members 7 and 5 for Bronze members
- You will be denied access to a class if you arrive more than 10 minutes after the class has started
- Pitch and court users can only play for the allotted time that they have booked and paid for. If they continue to play beyond this time they will be liable for additional charges based on the facility hired, which will be at the discretion of Sussexsport management.
- Force Majeure

If the University is rendered unable wholly, or in part, to carry out its obligations by reason of force majeure, they will give notice and be released from those obligations. This will include circumstances beyond the control of the University.
- Facilities
- Sussexsport reserves the right to close or amend timetables for any tournaments/other activities or connection with any repair/alteration/maintenance work. Advance notice of closures will be given where possible
- The Sport Centre operates on reduced hours during the summer. These will be listed on our webpages, on site and on social media, which users are expected to check regularly
- Appropriate clean sports clothing and footwear must be worn at all times
- Notices and signs displayed around the facilities (indoor and outdoor) must be obeyed at all times and equipment used safely and appropriately
- The University cannot accept responsibility for theft/loss/damage to members', guests' or visitors' property, however caused. Property left in lockers is left at the individual's risk. Vehicles and contents left in the car parks are the owner’s responsibility
- Lockers are available for use only while you are using the facilities. Use of a locker while not in Sussexsport premises is prohibited. If you leave your belongings overnight in a locker, Sussexsport reserves the right to open the locker (by force if necessary) and remove your belongings. Any breakages to the padlock will not be refunded
- Your belongings, so removed, will be available for collection from reception for a period of 30 days. If you do not collect your belongings within 30 days, they may be donated to charity.
- Fitness Rooms
- Please wear appropriate sports clothing in our fitness rooms and suitable footwear (trainers etc.)
- Please bring a towel at all times. If you forget, we have towels for sale at reception
- Please leave bags in lockers. Bags are not allowed in the fitness room. Padlocks are available for hire or to buy (or bring your own)
- If the gym is noticeably busy, the maximum time on cardio equipment will be 15 minutes
- Please allow others to use resistance machines between sets
- If you need to bring in a mobile phone, please ensure it is on silent and go outside for any conversations
- You will always need to bring your ID card with you
- Fitness room and Group Exercise users must be at least 16 years old.
- Courses
- Refunds will be given up to 24 hours before a course starts if Sussexsport have cancelled the course, or if participants bring a valid doctors note
- To guarantee a place on a course it must be paid for at the time of booking, we cannot ‘hold’ places.
- Swimming

Our discounted swim offer is available to University of Sussex students and staff at the Prince Regent, King Alfred and St Luke's pools - dependent on the leisure centres being open. It is your responsibility to check this ahead of your visit.
A student/staff swim form must be filled in on your first visit and a valid, in date, University of Sussex ID card must be presented to pool staff at every visit to claim the discount.
This offer is based on funding for a limited number of swims each year, in partnership with local providers. The length of this offer is therefore under regular review and availability of the pools is subject to our external partners.

Your feedback is really important to us. If you feel disappointed for any reason, or if you have a suggestion on how to improve Sussexsport, we would like to know. You can provide feedback at both sites, either in person at reception or by completing one of our feedback forms. Formal complaints must be sent to us in writing, via email, to sussexsport@sussex.ac.uk. We will respond to formal complaints within five working days.
