Mental Health Practice Unit

Parenting Clinic

We know that mental health problems run in families. However, at the moment, we do nothing to help parents with mental health problems to raise children who are free of these difficulties. The Parenting Clinic will help with this. It is a joint arrangement between adult mental health services and the Research and Development Department. Opening in September 2017, the clinic will first offer short workshops for parents who are receiving treatment for anxiety. We later hope to offer different forms of support (e.g. online interventions) and help for parents with different conditions, e.g. depression and personality difficulties. A major role of the Parenting Clinic will be to carry out research into the needs of parents with mental health difficulties and their children.
