The Department of Philosophy, University of Sussex is hosting two major events in the annual philosophy calendar:
- The British Society for the Philosophy of Science (7th-8th July)
- The Joint Session of the Aristotelian Society and Mind Association (8th July – 11th July).
In addition to those conferences, we will host a number of important academic events, including the Annual General Meeting of the British Philosophical Association, a meeting of the Society for Women in Philosophy, and a workshop run by the Subject Centre for Philosophical and Religious Studies. Information on all of the above events is or soon will be available on this website.

Details of Conferences
Numbers:
Based on data from previous conferences, and number of papers submitted this year, we are expecting around 80+ delegates at the BSPS conference, and 250+ at the Joint Session, though numbers may be significantly higher.
Programmes:
The BSPS conference programme comprises three plenary sessions and three sets of open sessions. All events will be held in the newly constructed specialist teaching space, the Fulton Building.
The Joint Session’s programme will follow the usual format. All plenary sessions will be “non-parallel”, and will be held in Chichester Lecture Theatre. All other sessions, as well as refreshments breaks and drinks receptions, will be held in the Fulton Building. As it is concretised, the details of the programme will be available from the conference webpage.
Position of Publishers
The publishers' stands will be located in the large foyer and social space on the Ground Floor of the Fulton Building, which will also be the venue for conference registration, Open and Postgraduate paper sessions, refreshments and drinks receptions. As this suggests, it is a highly visible location, through which all delegates will have to pass, and in which they are likely to spend time. The only other conference venue, the Chichester building, is a short distance away from the Fulton building and has no social space, thereby making the Fulton Building foyer the hub of conference activities.
We have chosen this site to maximise visibility, but at the cost of limiting the number of tables available to 2 per publisher, and to a maximum of 8 exhibitors in total. We hope this cost is offset by the desirability of the location.
Rooms in the Fulton Building will be available for storage prior to the conference, and overnight during it. Please list your precise requirements on the publisher's booking form. For unmanned tables, at an additional charge of £50 per table, you can hire personnel who will be responsible for the security of the exhibited products.
If you would like to sponsor any particular event in the course of these conferences, then please get in touch.
