TEXT: ANSWERING YOUR APPLICANT VISIT DAY QUESTIONS WITH CLAUDIA
TEXT: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN APPLICANT DAYS AND OPEN DAYS?
Our Applicant Days are invite only for offer holders.
Essentially, our Open Days are great for when you're researching your potential options, whereas our Applicant Days are there to help you decide which universities should be your firm and insurance choices.
TEXT: WHEN I ARRIVE HOW DO I REGISTER AT THE AVD?
Those attending our Applicant Day will receive an email with arrival and registration instructions a week before the event.
At the bottom of that email, there is a QR code.
If you have this QR code to hand on the day, this will help get you registered quicker.
There will also be a digital copy of the Applicant Day guide attached, which you can use to plan your day in advance.
And if you're driving to our campus, feel free to take a picture of the car park so that you remember where you have parked and can find your way back at the end of the day.
TEXT: WHAT CAN PARENTS/GUESTS DO AT THE APPLICANT VISIT DAY?
All our subjects deliver a Welcome to an Applicant Visit Day talk, and when this happens, you may be split from your parents.
They're more than welcome to have a wander round campus, grab a coffee or attend our special parents talk where they can learn about the admissions process, student finance and housing.
TEXT: WHAT TALKS ARE ON OFFER ON THE APPLICANT VISIT DAY?
On our applicant visit days, the focus is on the departments.
From 10AM you'll be able to attend your Subject Taster talks where you can get a taste of what your chosen degree subject may be like.
In the afternoon, we will put on more general talks and information desks, which are great to come along to if you want to get a taste of what university life is like and to help make you feel more at ease with the process.
TEXT: WHAT ACCOMMODATION CAN I SEE ON THE APPLICANT VISIT DAY?
On the day, you'll be able to see examples of accommodation on our housing tours from current students living in those halls. To make the most of your day have a look at our housing webpages in advance and decide which accommodation options are your top priorities to visit on the day.
Bear in mind that our housing tours are busiest between 12 and 2PM.
TEXT: HOW LONG DO I SPEND AT AN APPLICANT VISIT DAY?
Registration opens at 9AM and the day runs until 3:30PM which gives you and your guests plenty of time to make the most out for your day.
Once you feel you have a sufficient taste of Sussex, you can get a bus or train from our campus into the vibrant city of Brighton and Hove.
You can explore the unique independent shops in The Lanes, you can grab something to eat at one of the many exciting food venues the city has to offer, or if the weather is nice, you can go on the pier, have an ice cream, sit on the beach and finish off your day by watching the sunset.
TEXT: WHAT DID I LIKE ABOUT THE APPLICANT VISIT DAY?
At the Open Day I was a little reserved, so I used the Applicant Day to ask those questions that I was too afraid to ask the first time round. The taster lecture was also really interesting and allowed me to engage more with my course and really picture myself as a student here.
After attending the Open day at Sussex, I was pretty certain that Sussex would be my firm choice.
The Applicant Day served to confirm those initial impressions and I could really get an idea of what it would be like to be a student at Sussex.
It was also the last time I visited Sussex before starting here in September, so I took the opportunity to ask what I needed to do to prepare.
TEXT: WILL SUSSEX HELP COVER MY COSTS?
Sussex offers a travel bursary for all those attending the Applicant Visit Days.
It's worth up to £75 depending on where you're traveling from, and it's really easy to make your claim.
Once you register, we will send you all the information about how to claim your money back.
