Maisie's story
Maisie says her Foundation Year helped prepare her for university life. Maisie spoke to us about her experience and how her Foundation Year helped secure a place on a Mathematics BSc at Sussex.
Maisie's Foundation Year
"I unfortunately needed to resit a year of my A-levels, making my last year at school really difficult. All my friends had gone off to Uni and myself and a handful of others were almost 'left behind'. When my second set of A- level results didn't quite make the cut, I was automatically offered a place on the Mathematics Foundation Year at Sussex.
"Not making the grades again really knocked my confidence as I was then going to be another year behind my school friends. This made me question whether university was really for me.
"When Sussex offered me a place on their foundation course I also received an offer for the Mathematics BSc at the University of Essex. I chose the four-year course at Sussex, as I would rather spend an extra year in Brighton, than be somewhere I didn't love for three years.
I would recommend the foundation course to anyone who has perhaps taken a few years out of education, hasn't made their grades or simply wants to gain an extra year’s experience.” Maisie Savage
Mathematics BSc
"My Foundation Year allowed me to experience university life, get to know my lecturers, the structure of the course and how things are done, so that when I began the first year of my Mathematics BSc I was already one step ahead.
"I would recommend the foundation course to anyone who has perhaps taken a few years out of education, hasn't made their grades or simply wants to gain an extra year’s experience before starting their chosen course.
