Begin your journey towards becoming a skilled engineer in robotics and mechatronics – our emphasis on engineering practices sets you up for success. You’ll engage in exciting topics including mechatronics, autonomous vehicles, embedded systems, robotics and control engineering.

During your studies, you’ll:

  • cover theoretical aspects needed to solve problems in the field of robotics and mechatronics
  • develop hands-on experience in laboratories on industrial-grade equipment such as a mechatronics platform, mobile robots, industrial robotic manipulators and 3D printers
  • gain autonomy, and apply the knowledge you’ve gained through individual and interdisciplinary group projects.

You’ll work on cutting-edge technologies and real-world challenges, honing your problem-solving skills. This hands-on approach not only empowers you but also equips you with the essential skills for your future career. When you graduate, you’ll be well prepared for a career in robotics and automation engineering with a wide diversity of application sectors including:

  • space technologies
  • manufacturing
  • automotive engineering
  • transport
  • IoT (Internet of Things)
  • communications
  • aerospace.

This Master of Engineering (MEng) degree lets you specialise your degree with a range of options and provides you with the educational requirements needed to become a Chartered Engineer. In your final year, you’ll have the opportunity to choose and explore advanced topics at the forefront of mechatronics and robotics. This includes advanced electronic systems, cybernetics, neural networks and image processing. By practising marketing analysis and financial strategic planning, you’ll not only develop your technical knowledge but also sharpen your entrepreneurship skills.

You should have a broad range of GCSEs grade 9-4 (A*-C), including good grades in relevant subjects.

We take the EPQ into account when considering your application and it can be useful in the summer when your results are released if you have narrowly missed the conditions of your offer.  We do not routinely include the EPQ in the conditions of your offer but we sometimes offer alternative conditions that include the EPQ. Global Design Challenge

You join all first-year students in the School of Engineering and Informatics in a team-based, week-long activity, the Global Design Challenge. Each team designs a solution to a problem faced by a community in the developing world. You develop transferable skills, benefiting both your studies and your future employability.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2025/26. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum. We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.

Your time in industry develops your technical, team-working and transferable skills as you apply what you have learned in your studies to a business environment.

A year in industry is a proven way to fast-track your career. Many students who undertake an industrial placement perform better academically on their return to their course and are more likely to secure employment as a direct result of their year in industry.

Please note that if you’re receiving – or applying for – USA federal Direct Loan funds, you can’t transfer to the version of your course with an optional study abroad period in any country or optional placement in the USA if the number of credits for the placement/internship exceeds 25% of the total credits for your course.
