Spring teaching

This module focusses on theories, methods, research findings and debates in social psychology. 

We'll examine key topics such as:

  • self- and other-perception
  • social cognition and behaviour change
  • stereotyping and stigma
  • positive well-being and stress.

We'll use social psychological theory and research to examine a range of problems relating to health and wellbeing and then work together to critically evaluate existing theory and interventions in these areas. You'll examine classic studies and current findings and evaluate published research reports.

30%: Coursework (Essay)
70%: Examination (Computer-based examination)

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 22 hours of contact time and about 128 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2025/26. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
