Critical Reflection on Educational, Theory and Practice: PT (145X3PT)
15 credits, Level 7 (Masters)
Autumn teaching
Through two combined modules you will begin the process of relating theory to practice by analysing and evaluating literature on critical reflection, in addition to substantive topics in education, and applying the process of critical reflection to some aspect of your professional life and practice.
You will deepen your knowledge and understanding of a particular area of education identified in an earlier module, through more extensive reading of the literature. This enables you to evaluate its significance to your own learning.
For example, you might choose to deepen your understanding of:
- children's learning and motivation (psycholgical, sociocultural, etc)
- supporting students with English as an Additional Language or special educational needs and disabilties
- teacher development
- assessment
- learner-centred pedagogies
- curriculum development
- pedagogy for creativity.
For full-time students, the two modules will be taught through a block of unified teaching.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
