Summer teaching
This module provides you taking the programme with the opportunity to complete under expert supervision a 10,000-word dissertation on a topic of your choosing relevant to the field of environment, development & policy.
You may wish to conduct fieldwork for your dissertation, others may chose to work on secondary sources.
In order to prepare for this work, you will have been given a training workshop in dissertation writing and you will be allocated a supervisor, who will help you prepare for your research, develop your problematic and supervise your independent research and writing through four half-hour one-on-one supervisions in the summer term.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 450 hours of work. This breaks down into about 2 hours of contact time and about 448 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2023/24. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
