My name is Phumiphat, a student from Thailand who didn’t expect to come study in the UK after graduating from a French school in Thailand. In this blog post I will explain the reasons why I decided to study abroad in the UK instead of a Thai university.

A study abroad agency organized an event at my school. I went around booths with representatives from universities in England. One of the booths attracted my interest, it was the University of Sussex and the people in the booths were very nice and friendly. They gave me some essential information and contacts and told me how nice the atmosphere on campus is.

Afterwards I did some research and realised the university is located in Brighton, the town that I went to study English for a summer school when I was 16.

I fell in love with the city, people and the environment. The peaceful town located near the seaside and Sussex campus, surrounded by natural hills and woods. All of this has a huge impact on my decision because it gave me the same feeling as my hometown in Thailand, unlike busy towns like Bangkok or London.

I decided to choose Sussex for a few reasons. Firstly, I wanted to study international relations and the best way to learn about that is to stay in international countries like the UK or the US for better opportunities.

Secondly, my future career is to work in the United Nations and languages are very important for this job, and studying in the UK is the best way to improve my English for a better opportunity.

Finally, the UK is quite diverse in terms of culture and society. There are many people from all over the world with different backgrounds.

I think Sussex and studying abroad in England is the best decision that I ever made in my life. I have met amazing friends from different backgrounds who always support me. Also, studying helped me to discover my strengths and weaknesses in each area of study. Most importantly I developed the skills I needed for my future career.
