The Islamic Society (ISoc) provides:

  • free Iftar every day after sunset at the Muslim Student Centre
  • Tarawih Prayer every day after Iftar
  • breakfast at the Muslim Student Centre on the Eid following Ramadan.

Food

You can buy international products from our weekly on-campus market and food markets in Brighton, and halal meats from Taj Mahal International Foods.

There are also halal restaurants in the city, ranging from Moroccan to Lebanese.

Religion

We have a Muslim Student Centre and a Muslim prayer facility on campus, and there are three mosques in Brighton.

If you bringing children with you and you want to enrol them in a school that teaches Arabic, contact the Islamic Society for more information on isoc@ussu.sussex.ac.uk.

In November of 2021 the Saudi Arabian Ambassador, HRH Prince Khalid bin Bandar Al Saud visited the University of Sussex to meet with PhD students and see the campus' facilities.

Research links

We have strong research links with the Arab World, led by The Middle East and North Africa Centre at Sussex (MENACS) which has over 30 academics from across the University. 

Drawing on area studies and interdisciplinary research at Sussex, MENACS members engage in research and teaching related to the Middle East and North Africa.
