School of Media, Arts and Humanities - for students and staff

Studio A

Studio A consists of three rooms; the Control Room, the Dead Room, and the Live Room. With its vintage desk and selection of outboard, it is particularly suited for tracking and production, and for surround production in its 5.1 room.

Studio A

The studio houses our vintage Neve 66 console. One of only sixty-seven made, and one of only a few surviving, the console was originally built for the BBC as a broadcast desk, and came to us in 2018. The console has 12 mono and 12 stereo channels, four group channels, seven auxes, and houses four Neve dynamics processors.

The Control Room features an Apple iMac computer, UAD Apollo interfaces and monitoring from AE Acoustics and Genelec. It has outboard preamps by Focusrite, Drawmer and Rupert Neve Designs, outboard dynamics by Universal Audio, Empirical Labs, Drawmer and Art, outboard EQ by JDK Audio, and outboard reverb by Eventide. It also houses a Revox PR99 MKIII 1/4" 2-track tape machine, and an Otari 2" 24-track tape machine.

The Dead Room features a 5.1 system with an UAD Apollo interface and speakers by Genelec. It also houses an SSL UF8 control surface, and outboard synthesisers by Yamaha and Emu.

The Live Room houses a Yamaha upright piano, Gretch drum kit, amps by Vox, Marshall, Ampeg and Peavey, and four large movable acoustic baffles.

Practice Rooms
