Tanay's research focuses on current and future developments in space law & policy, and its imapct on the regional and global space environment. His research includes, but is not limited to the following avenues:

Design and development new propulsion mechanisms for space vehicles
Review of current international space policies & their relation to local export control regulations.
Assessment of the U.S National Space Policy, existing Export Control regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) and United States Munitions List (USML).
Assessing regulatory impact on commercial space development.
