His work examines how migration, especially to Europe, affects education and social mobility in rural Senegal. As a Honorary Research Fellow, Mamadou studies the individual dynamics of irregular migration from rural Senegal to Europe. It considers why young men embark on the risky journey, focusing on what drives them, what they are seeking, and how they negotiate the challenges they face. By documenting their stories, anxieties, and day-to-day struggles, the research brings to the fore the human dimensions of migration.
