Security Threat: “I caught you watching porn” phishing attack

Numerous staff and students at Sussex have received very unpleasant, targeted phishing emails with subject lines like “I caught you watching porn”. They are sent from email accounts that include Sussex Student names, for example xx123@sussex.ac.uk. This appears to be a persistent attack over the holiday period, with particularly unpleasant content.

These emails are completely false and should be disregarded. We are working to identify and block this threat, please delete these emails if you receive one in your in box, and do not follow any instructions to pay money.

Please take extra care to check that emails are genuine before you respond. Our security systems catch hundreds of thousands of malicious emails every year but some get through.
