Description of work:
We’ll be changing the security for Study Direct, the University’s older Virtual Learning Environment. These changes will improve network security, but afterwards you will only be able to access Study Direct if you’re on-campus.
Date / time:
08 July 2019, 09:00
What will you notice once this work is complete?
Canvas is now used for all courses and assessments, so very few students or staff are still accessing Study Direct. After this change you’ll still be able to log in to Study Direct, but you won’t be able to open the website from off-campus.
Members of staff will be able to access Study Direct remotely using Windows Remote.
Why are we doing this work?
Study Direct will eventually be decommissioned. As an older service, being connected to the internet is an unnecessary security risk. We’re bringing Study Direct within the campus firewall as part of ongoing work to strengthen the network against vulnerabilities.

We had intended to remove off-site access to Study Direct today.
However, following feedback from one school, we will will delay this change until later in the year.
