Internal junk mailing (that is, the deliberate sending of junk email or spam from a Sussex account) is classed as computer misuse and as such contravenes the University of Sussex's IT and Communications Regulations.
External junk mailing from a site in the UK connected to Janet, (all UK Universities for example), contravenes the Janet Acceptable Use Guidelines.
The university's main email server is configured to reject mail from certain likely sources of unsolicited bulk email, specifically mail sent from servers in the Trend Micro Email Reputation database and the MAPS dial-up list.
