SPSS fails to activate and displays a 'License not valid' message
Please follow these steps to correct the problem.
- Close SPSS, if running.
- Open File Explorer from the Start Menu.
- Navigate to folder 'C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS Statistics'.
- Delete the lservrc file.
- In the same folder, copy file echoid.dat to the Desktop.
- Open the file you copied to the Desktop, in Notepad.
- Change the value in the file from 0x004 to 0x008.
- Save the file.
- Now copy the file from the Desktop back to 'C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS Statistics'.
- Now start SPSS from the Start Menu.
- Click Launch License Wizard.
- In the Wizard, select Authorized user license.
- Click Next.
- Enter the code published on this page: https://www.sussex.ac.uk/its/services/software/owncomputer/spss
- Click the Add button.
- Click Next.
- Wait for the Internet Authorization to complete and then click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Click Restart.
