If you have set your site to allow informal subscriptions (see FAQ 1245 - How do I set up informal subscriptions on a site?) or guest access (see FAQ 1344 - How do I enable/disable guest access for my site?), you can use a subscription key to restrict access.
A subscription key is a one-time password for your site. The first time a participant tries to enter the site, they will be prompted for the subscription key. Once they have provided it, they will not be prompted for it again. You can easily change the subscription key if you need to, changing the key does not unsubscribe your existing users. As usual, you can also manually add or remove participants if you wish (see FAQ 1273 - How do I add people to a site?).
To set up a subscription key first click the green Dashboard button in the top right on your site. Next click People and then Subscription options.
Under the People can subscribe themselves option click Yes.
Next enter your Subscription key in the text box provided. The key can be a mixture of letters and numbers, you will need to circulate this key to students or guests so that they can access the site.
Finally scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save changes.
