Musical Bridges: Transforming Transition is a research project funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
Researchers from the Department of Education include Music Tutor - Alison Daubney, Duncan Mackrill - Director of Initial Teacher Education, Judy Sebba - Director of Research & Knowledge Exchange and of the CIRCLETS research centre and Julie Farlie - Coordinator.
The aim of the project is to evaluate and assess the changes in practice as a result of Musical Bridges intervention. The research team will be identifying evidence of pupil outcomes in personal, social and educational development following transition to secondary school. The team will also be assessing outcomes for the wider community.
It is also hoped that the evaluation will highlight aspects of the Musical Bridges project which have the greatest potential to be 'scaled up'. More than this, though, the research will explore potential for transfer of its approach to other subjects, or even whole-school transition.
Evidence will be sought on the early development of 'hubs' set out in the National Music Plan so that future progress is better informed.
