Association of Certified and Chartered Accountants (ACCA)Association of Certified and Chartered Accountants (ACCA) logo

The BSc in Accounting and Finance and the BSc in Finance and Business have been awarded accreditation from the ACCA. All students who sit and pass the core modules, and also choose to study and obtain a pass in specific optional modules, will gain exemptions from subject relevant ACCA papers. CIMA logoChartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)

The BSc in Accounting and Finance has been awarded an eight paper accreditation from CIMA. These exemptions can be used by students passing the core degree:

  • BA1 Fundamentals of Business Economics
  • BA2 Fundamentals of Management Accounting
  • BA3 Fundamentals of Financial Accounting Certificate
  • BA4 Fundamentals of Ethics, Corporate Governance and Business Law
  • E1 Managing Finance in a Digital World
  • F1 Financial Reporting
  • P1 Management Accounting
  • Operational Case Study Exam

Those taking the following degrees will be awarded a four paper accreditation from CIMA: BSc Business and Management Studies, BSc Banking and Digital Finance, BSc Economics and Finance, BSc Finance and Business, BSc Finance and Technology (FinTech), BSc Economics and Management Studies, BSc International Business, BSc Economics, BA Economics and with another subject. These exemptions can be used by students passing the core degree:

  • BA1 Fundamentals of Business Economics
  • BA2 Fundamentals of Management Accounting
  • BA3 Fundamentals of Financial Accounting
  • BA4 Fundamentals of Ethics, Corporate Governance and Business Law

Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM)

CIM Graduate Gateway logoFor those taking Marketing and Management BSc or Marketing and Management with Psychology BSc , on graduation you will be eligible for exemptions on both the CIM Certificate and Diploma.

The Marketing and Management with Psychology BSc has been awarded the Graduate Gateway status. Graduates will be exempt on an Accredited Prior Learning (APL) basis from L4 Certificate in Professional Marketing modules, and required to pass one further elective module to obtain the L4 Certificate in Professional Marketing or Certificate in Professional Digital Marketing qualification.

Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA)

Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) logoThe BSc in Accounting and Finance has been awarded five paper exemptions from the CIPFA Professional Accountancy Qualification. To obtain exemptions from the following CIPFA papers, students must pass all core modules:

• Financial Accounting
• Management Accounting
• Business Planning & Financial Management
• Business Reporting.

To obtain exemption from the Audit & Assurance CIPFA paper, students will be required to choose and pass both the Audit Assurance and Advanced Audit and Assurance optional modules.

Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI)

Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) logoFor those taking the BSc in Accounting and Finance, BSc Finance and Technology (FinTech), BSc Banking and Digital Finance, BSc Economics and Finance, or BSc Finance and Business: If you’re interested in achieving Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) qualifications, you may opt in to CISI membership, sponsored by the University's partnership agreement.

Your CISI membership gives you valuable access to careers events, employability training, on-campus presentations and exam bookings. You also benefit from the subsidised and convenient exam sittings on campus, allowing you to get a step ahead in your career (please note that you'll be expected to pay the exam workbook fee).

CISI provides official recognition of the Year 2 and 3 finance modules as strong preparation for the selected CISI qualifications.

Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)

Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) logoThe BSc in Accounting and Finance has been awarded a five paper accreditation from the ICAEW. All students who sit and achieve the grades given below will gain exemptions from the following ICAEW papers:

  • Accounting

A minimum of 50% based on the 1st and 2nd year core Financial Accounting modules

  • Business and Finance

Achieving Upper second or First degree with a mix of the core Accounting and Business modules

  • Management Information

A minimum of 50% based on 2nd year core Management Accounting modules

  • Principles of Taxation

A minimum of 50% based on Taxation module

  • Assurance

A minimum of 50% based on Audit module

The specific modules that attract the awards from the ICAEW depend on the year that the module was studied and passed.

Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS)

Chartered Financial Analyst Institute (CFA)

Chartered Financial Analyst Institute (CFA) logoAffiliation from the CFA Institute is related to the BSc Banking and Digital FinanceBSc Finance and BusinessBSc Economics and Finance and BSc Finance and Technology (FinTech). A minimum of 70% of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge is covered by the syllabus at Sussex. 

Students on these courses will be able to: access online material from the CFA Institute in preparation for the CFA exams; apply for scholarships towards exam fees; and attend events held by the CFA Institute.
