Two baby crows were recently rescued on campus after falling from their nest and being found on the ground.
Planning Officer, Matthew Chalk, spotted the fledglings during a lunchtime walk around the campus on Thursday 13 April. High winds that day may have caused the birds to fall from their nest, near to the edge of the Sports Centre car park.
Matthew said: “I was worried that one or both of the young birds might be injured, so quickly searched on my phone which organisation to call for help, as I didn’t want to leave them there in danger.”
He called the East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) who promptly sent a volunteer covering the local area to rescue the birds.
Matthew said: “She was brilliant! The WRAS volunteers do such an amazing job helping to protect and rescue injured wildlife around East Sussex.
"I received a couple of text updates the following day to say the birds were safe and fed. Following an x-ray, one of the birds was unfortunately found to have a broken leg.”
WRAS are hopeful of a full recovery, at which point the birds will be released back into their natural environment.
