Job description
The Department of Engineering and Design, which is part of the School of Engineering and Informatics, seeks to appoint a Professor of Engineering to enhance the research and teaching within the department. This post will, in addition, be given lectureship support. We are a multi-disciplinary engineering department, offering courses in automotive, electrical and electrotonic, mechanical and robotics engineering, as well as in product design. The department has a strong reputation with mechanical engineering and product design areas being ranked within the top 15 in the country by the Guardian university guide in recent years. We carry out outstanding research in fluid mechanics, communications, and robotics. We are involved in highly multi-disciplinary projects spanning not only different areas in our own school, but also other schools within the university.
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, and dynamic person with a strong research track record in one or more of the areas of acoustics, materials, or manufacturing, or to match our existing research strengths. If you have an excellent professional reputation in these fields, a passion for engineering education with a proven record as an outstanding educator, then please contact us. You will have a comprehensive research vision in your field and will be open to multi-disciplinary research. You will be leading our research in these fields by putting together and consolidating a research group which will contribute prominently to our next REF submission. We expect you to be a leading figure in the department by publishing high quality papers, obtaining significant funding for your research, demonstrating impact, and using innovative teaching methods and thus contributing to raising the standards in the department to even higher levels.
Exceptional candidates with research interests outside those mentioned above but who would fit within the department, school and university research strategy, are also welcome to apply.
Please contact Professor Romeo Glovnea, the Head of Department of Engineering and Design, for informal enquiries at R.P.Glovnea@sussex.ac.uk.
The University is committed to equality and valuing diversity, and applications are particularly welcomed from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics (STEMM) at Sussex.
