Hours: Part-time hours considered up to a maximum of 0.8 FTE / 29.2 hours per week, including teaching and administrative duties and responsibilities. Requests for flexible working options will be considered (subject to business need).  Teaching for this position is timetabled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. All teaching is in-person on our Falmer campus.

Job description

The Department of English Language and Linguistics is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in English Language and Linguistics (Education and Scholarship) for fixed-term teaching coverage due to staff absence in Autumn 2023.

General teaching expectations include:

  • Teaching and module convening on the elective Language and Power
  • Teaching and module convening on core module Great Ideas about Language.
  • Contributing to other teaching in English Language and Linguistics as relevant.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Holding student consultation hours twice a week.
  • Contributing to marking and academic integrity processes in the department.

You will join a thriving, collegial department. Teaching experience, good communication skills, and an ability to work productively as part of a friendly, team-oriented department are essential qualities for this position. We are seeking someone who holds a doctorate, or who is near to completing a doctorate, in a relevant field.
