Poster printing
Presenting your research at a conference? Here's how to print your poster!
We have the facility to print conference posters on paper; we can usually also lend you a poster tube to transport it.
Posters can be printed from Powerpoint or PDF format. The printer is located in the Pevensey 1 stationery room, and you'll need your access card to get in.
We regret that we don't (yet) have the ability to print posters on fabric. If you'd prefer a fabric poster, we have heard good things about Science Posters.

Create your poster. Check the guidelines of your conference for details on size and design if you are unsure. Save the poster to a USB.
In the poster printing room, log in to the computer as Printy McPoster (no password). Optionally, copy your poster to the desktop and open it. (After printing, please delete it from the desktop.)Open the file.
Click the Design tab, click on Slide size and then Custom slide side. Make a note of the measurements. Close this without changing anything.
Click File, Print, then Printer properties. Under Paper options, click the button marked Custom...
Click to change the measurements from inches to mm. On the left, input the measurements in mm. Standard A0, which many conference posters use, is 1189 x 841 mm. Click OK to confirm.
Make sure the paper source is set to Roll. Select the correct size roll (either 42 or 36 inch). Click the tickbox marked Autorotate. Click OK to confirm.
Click Print. The printer will take some time, so please be patient!
When the print is finished, the printer will cut the paper from the roll. It will not trim margins, so you may need to trim these manually with scissors. - Printing from PDF

If you don't know the size of your poster off the top of your head, you can easily find out. Right-click anywhere on the document and select Document properties.
On the Description tab, look for Page size. This will give the document size in inches. Optionally, use Google to convert this to mm!
