The Sussex Centre for Migration
Research (SCMR) at the University of Sussex, Brighton
, has a strong experience of research on migration issues and
has sought to influence both understanding of migration and
the policies that affect migrants. In the past, the centre
has conducted policy-oriented
research for the UK Home Office, DFID and IOM. SCMR also provides
doctoral and masters-level training in Migration Studies,
and published the internationally-recognised Journal of Ethnic
and Migration Studies.
The Institute of Development Studies
(IDS) at the University of Sussex, Brighton was established
in 1966 and is an internationally-renowned centre for research
consultancy, policy advice, teaching, technical
assistance and information services
on development. Key IDS research themes are Poverty and Social
Policy, Globalisation, Governance, Environment, Participation,
and Health and Social Change. In the context of the DRC, the
experience of IDS staff in work on poverty reduction, livelihoods
and globalisation will be a particular strength.
