This module introduces you to key interdisciplinary approaches to the philosophical and historical evolution of human rights, as well as contemporary forms and uses, beyond a legal positivist approach.
You’ll have the opportunity for in-depth engagement with key texts in the study of human rights. Using monographs, podcasts and videos/film, you’ll focus on the multi-faceted and contingent ways in which human rights are socially enacted, including:
- defined
- claimed
- interpreted
- challenged
- implemented
- monitored.
You’ll also explore the possibilities and limitations of human rights to realise their utopian potential.
