On this module, you’ll explore development with a focus on environmental issues.
You’ll examine the relationships between development and the environment, asking critical questions about today’s key environmental challenges and their possible causes. You’ll also investigate how the environment and sustainability have been considered (or ignored) in development practices, and how this has changed over time.
Key environmental topics covered include:
- population
- climate change
- wildlife management
- agriculture.
Module learning outcomes
- Knowledge of the relationships between environment and development.
- Awareness and understanding of key concepts and core debates in the study of environment and development.
- Knowledge of the core reading, with some appreciation of the subtlety of debates about environment and development, and of the underlying logic of different theoretical perspectives.
