This module critically analyses the evolution of the international institutional order since World War II up to contemporary times. It examines the emergence and transformations of these bodies in the face of evolving and emerging issues and challenges.

You will focus on institutions such as:

• the United Nations
• the World Bank
• the International Monetary Fund
• the World Trade Organisation

as well as non-state actors and then gauge and assess their response to the issues and challenges in their respective fields of competence.

Module learning outcomes

• Demonstrate an analytical understanding of the nature of post-world war international institutions and their approaches to key issues and challenges.
• Develop an in-depth knowledge of at least one of these institutions through their individual work.
• Locate and exploit scholarly resources on international institutions.
