We know that the personal is political. But the political is personal too.

Our political identities, actions and allegiance are connected to how we understand ourselves and the world around us. And yet, the way we experience and make sense of our own inner lives is also shaped by the cultural and political context in which we live.

On this module, you’ll draw on primary source material to ask how we can understand the relationships:

• between individual and group identities
• between feelings and actions
• between personal experiences and political change.

Module learning outcomes

• evaluate key theories about subjectivity, selfhood and the history of the emotions
• critically apply these to an understanding of modern politics
• undertake analysis of primary sources
• complete a sustained piece of independent research
