Technical Drawing and Computer Aided Design
Module code: H7131
Level 4
15 credits in spring semester
Teaching method: Laboratory
Assessment modes: Coursework
In this hands-on module, you will learn the basics techniques of descriptive geometry, the rules and standards of technical drawing and basic computer-aided design.
The module has two, closely related parts.
In the first, you will learn how to produce technical drawings by hand. You’ll gain an understanding of the rules and conventions used internationally in technical product documentation and specification. This will enable you to read technical drawings with confidence and communicate efficiently with product development and manufacturing departments.
In the second part of the module, you will learn the basics of software packages used for technical drawing, helping you to progress to year two of your course.
Module learning outcomes
- Understanding of and ability to use relevant materials, equipment, tools, processes, or products
- Ability to use appropriate codes of practice and industry standards
- Ability to apply relevant practical and laboratory skills; Generate Solid Models, Assemblies and Engineering Drawings
- Apply their skills in problem solving, communication, information retrieval and the effective use of general IT facilities
