Engineering and design
Materials and Manufacturing Processes
Module code: H7106
Level 4
15 credits in autumn semester
Teaching method: Laboratory, Lecture, Practical, Workshop
Assessment modes: Coursework, Computer based exam
Learn about the importance of the relationships between product design, material properties and manufacturing processes.
You will consider:
- the production of products that meet customer quality and functionality requirements
- the failure mode of materials in the context of product functionality, safety factors and manufacturing processes
- how to minimise environmental impact.
We also introduce you to the necessary supporting IT infrastructure. You’ll gain knowledge that enables you to make economically viable selections of materials and manufacturing processes.
Module learning outcomes
- Demonstrate understanding of the underlying principles and concepts of the relation between material properties and design
- Demonstrate the evaluation of material behaviour for different loading cases
- Apply the principles of selection of materials, and analyse the failure modes of materials
- Have knowledge and experience of the basic principles of manufacturing processes
