The module is designed to address the specific needs of speakers of other languages, to familiarise them with the conventions of academic English needed for tertiary study in the UK and to develop the language and skills required for effective study. Pre-requisite - students will not have English as their first language.
Module learning outcomes
- Evaluate academic texts and secondary sources, and demonstrate effective and efficient note-taking skills at an intermediate (CEFR B2) level of language competence
- Produce accurate and coherent written texts, with evidence of paraphrase, supported by appropriately referenced evidence from secondary sources
- Use suitable interactive language to communicate effectively and follow the argumentation of others at an intermediate (B2) level
- Show the ability to make use of self-study tasks and independent resources for language learning to develop their knowledge and use of academic English
